Book Bangin' (#2) Dystopia Boys

Book Bangin' is a feature hosted by Belle of the Literati where we talk all about our favourite book boyfriends. This months topic, to talk about book boyfriends, is DYSTOPIA!

We get to talk about our favourite book boyfriends from dystopia novels, I've read a decent amount of dystopia (at least, I think I might have), so I have an alright number of boys to pick from...

Sam's Top Dystopia Book Boyfriends:

1. Ian O'Shea (The Host by Stephenie Meyer)

2. Justin Connor (The Tribe #1: The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf by Ambelin Kwaymullina)

3. Day (Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu)

4. Finnick (The Hunger Games #2: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins)

9. Four (Divergent by Veronica Roth)

6. Peeta (The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins)

7. Liam (Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken)

8. Ben (Unravelling by Elizabeth Norris)

9. Perri (Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi)

10. Adam (Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi)

Book Boy of the Month:
The Alexanders from The Alexanders series by M. Malone - one plays a guitar, another will go to crazy lengths to get the girl he loves, and another is a bodyguard, plus there's an honorary Alexander who happens to be a man in uniform - Jackson, Nick, Elliot, Matt: there is no choosing between them. - (Adult Series)

Gen's Top Dystopia Book Boyfriends:

I haven't actually read many dystopia novel apart from The Hunger Games, so this month I'll just be doing my Book Boy of the Month

Book Boy of the Month:
Adrian from Bloodlines (#1 Bloodlines) by Richelle Mead - a seemingly careless playboy type who reveals that he is incredibly sensitive, sweet, kind and looks beyond the facade put on by others to see what their true emotions are. Many boys aren't this gorgeous either! He is not just my Book Boy of the Month but thus far, also my ultimate Book Boyfriend *swoon*

Blood doesn't lie...

Sydney is an alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of human and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives.
When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she's still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway.

But what unfolds is far worse.

Jill Dragomir - the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir - is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding.
To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill's guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the last place anyone would think to look for vampire royalty - a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California.

But instead of finding safety at Amberwood Prep, Sydney discovers the drama is only just beginning...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Takes a lot of tries before you hit perfection." He paused to reconsider that. "Well, except for my parents. They got it on the first try."

Bloodlines is the continuation of Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series.
Instead of following the adventures and escapades of Rose, Lissa and Dimitri it follows that of alchemist, Sydney and her trials in keeping a vampire princess safe for a couple of months.

Faced with the expectations of the alchemists community around her, who are waiting for her to screw up and fratanise with vampires again. But Sydney is determined to keep her younger sister out of the alchemists clutches by fulfilling a task which may jepardise her relationships with those she cares most about in the alchemist world.
Syney once again gets to spend time with the shy Jill (sister to Vampire Queen Lissa), the ever flippant party boy Adrian and the protective guardian Eddie.
Battling her instincts to bring her supervisor, Keith, down a few pegs through revealing his dirty lttle secret.
Sydney must tow the very thin line between being friendly and professional towards the vampire group to avoid causing herself anymore trouble and being sent for reeducation, though this may be difficult when there is a traitor amongst them.

I LOVED Bloodlines!!! Although I have read it before, it is a novel which I can read numerous times! I really enjoy the development of the characters and the dimension that Mead gives to the who we were able to meet briefly but did not get to properly meet, during the Vampire Academy series.

As a character I simply adore Adrain, I love him!! Since I first met Adrian in Frostbite I fell for him and I'm not ashamed of it hehe, he is gorgeous!! Such a funny, sweet and thoughtful personality I cannot help but adore him <3
The development of Sydney is one that I think was well executed, so much so that her character (which I found I couldn't identify with in past novels) was one that I grew to like and enojy the company of. I found that she grew in herself even just in this novel, as did the others.
I was definately was not expecting the plotline to take the twists and turns that it did and by the end come to many of the outcomes that it did. This was a journey that I found was a rollercoaster of emotion and developing connections between characters. I love the style in which it was written, the plot and its many twists and, of course, the characters!

“Yeah? Can you draw a skeleton riding a motorcycle with flames coming out of it? And I want a pirate hat on the skeleton. And a parrot on his shoulder. A skeleton parrot. Or maybe a ninja skeleton parrot? No, that would be overkill. But it'd be cool if the biker skeleton could be shooting some ninja throwing stars. That are on fire.”

I rate Bloodlines Five out of Five!!!

About THROUGH GLASS

Everyone remembers the day the sky went black. They remember the screams as the blackness ate those who were out in the open, those who surrounded themselves by light, and those who made noise.

Everyone remembers the voice from the sky, the way food disappeared.

Everyone remembers the day the sky went black, and the sun was wiped from the sky.

At least that’s what I hope. I hope that there is an ‘everyone’ that will remember.

I hope that I am not alone.
Because I remember.
I remember, because it was the day I became alone.
It was the day the house went silent, and the birds stopped singing. It was the day when everyone disappeared, everyone except the boy, the only person I have seen in two years.

The boy I talk to through the glass.

Top Ten Tuesday! (#6) Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme is all about list-making, with a new topic each week.

This weeks Topic:
Top Ten Books Most Memorable Secondary Characters

Sam's Picks:

#10. Gary (Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles)

“A Mexican guy named Sam pushes Gary Frankel next to Isabel. "This guy can break your arm with one snap, asshole. Get out of my sight before I sic him on you," Sam says.

Gary, who's wearing a coral shirt and white pants, growls to look tough. It doesn't work.”

#9. Faro (Ingo by Helen Dunmore)

#8. Metias (Life Before Legend by Marie Lu)

 - His approval fills my heart with warmth. I tuck my knees up to my chin and smile. "Love you," I say.
Metias smiles back at me. "Love you too. Keep at it Junebug - someday, you'll shake the Republic to its very core. You'll be absolutely unforgettable. I know it."

#7. Homer (Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden)

“Homer was becoming more surprising with every passing hour. It was getting hard to remember that this fast-thinking guy, who’d just spent fifteen minutes getting us laughing and talking and feeling good again, wasn’t even trusted to hand out the books at school.”

#6. Vee (Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick)

 - “Before I forget, here's your homework. Where do you want me to put it?"
She pointed at the trash can. "Right there would be fine.”

#5. Ben (On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta)

  - “No chance. It'd be like cutting off our hands."
"Then learn to live without your hands."
"No, because then we won't be able to do this," Ben says, giving him the finger.”

#4. Perri the Savage (Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta)

- "He had watched as the imposter's Guard forced his father to his knees. He remembered how Trevanion's men bit their fists in rage and how it took ten of them to hold back Perri the Savage"

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Trevanion was staring at Perri. 'You,' he said. 'If anything happens to me, protect my boy.'
'Trevanion,' August protested, 'I will protect Finnikin. He will always have a place in my home.'
'No,' Trevanion said firmly. 'You make sure my son gets whatever privilege allows the King's boy, Augie. The Son of Bartolina of the Rock deserves nothing less. But you,' he said, pointing to Perri, 'you make sure he is protected.'
'You have the wrong man,' Perri snapped
...
'Where's Trevanion?' one of them (a young man of Lumatere) asked later as the early light of morning began to seep under the door.
August of the Flatlands looked around. 'Probably at the grave. He'd sleep there if not for the child.'
One of the lads walked towards the baby's basket and pulled aside the blanket, only to find himself pinned to the wall with a dagger to his neck. He stared into the obsidian eyes of Perri the Savage, who snarled close to his ear, 'Touch him again and you lose a hand.'

#3. Bex (Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter)

  - “the only way Bex would miss this would be if she were unconscious. And tied up. And in a concrete bunker. In Siberia.”

#2. John (Legend by Marie Lu)

  - “When you stand out there," John continues in a hoarse voice, "keep your chin up, all right? Don't let them get to you."
"I won't."
"Make them work for it. Punch someone if you have to." John gives me a sad, crooked smile. "You're a scary kid. So scare them. Okay? All the way until the end."

#1. Finnick O'dair (Catching Fire by Suzanne Young)

  - Really, the combination of the scabs and the ointment looks hideous. I can't help enjoying his distress.
"Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?" I say.
"It must be. The sensation's completely new. How have you managed it all these years?" he asks.
"Just avoid mirrors. You'll forget about it," I say.
"Not if I keep looking at you," he says.”

--------------------------------------

 - “I pull an arrow, whip the notch into place, and am about to let it fly when I'm stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. And it's so bizarre, even for Finnick.”

DARKER DAYS by Jus Accardo

Jessie Darker goes to high school during the day, but at night she helps with the family investigation business. Cheating husbands and stolen inheritances? They’re your girls—but their specialty is a bit darker. Zombie in your garage? Pesky Poltergeist living in your pool? They’ll have the problem solved in a magical minute. For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

There’s a spell that will allow the Sins to remain free, causing chaos forever. When the key ingredient threatens the life of someone she knows, Jessie must make the ultimate choice between love and family—or lose everything.

CHAOS by Christine O’Neil

My name is Maggie Raynard. After sixteen years being just plain me, suddenly I can kill people when I lose my temper. Turns out I'm a semi-god, descended from Aphrodite. Sounds cool in theory, but when I accidentally put my ex-boyfriend in a coma, things go downhill pretty fast.

Now some new guy named Mac Finnegan has made it his mission in life to continually piss me off. I'm stuck learning how to use my new powers while also dealing with regular high school problems, and with this---annoying and super-hot---guy all up in my business, I'm about to flip out.
But it gets worse. I just learned there's this council for semis that wants me dead. They think I'm bad to the bone and when my ex suddenly dies, it's like everyone is determined to take me out. Mac might turn out to be my only salvation, but he's got secrets of his own---that may just kill us both.
